Optical Hyperspace

It is a well known fact that high angular momentum modes do not penetrate a circle of critical radius called the caustic. Our device aptly termed the “hyperlens” squeezes light and causes it to penetrate the caustic into regions previously unexplored thus making it possible for the light to probe subwavelength objects, a phenomenon called superlensing. The image shows a tiled simulation plot of an angular momentum mode of light and the caustic circle in white which is being penetrated. This “hyperspace” is a region which supports a hyperbolic dispersion law instead of the normal elliptical dispersion law.
